The main story ostensibly tells of the fight between the main characters and a half-demon named Naraku. In contrast to the western demon, however, they are by no means exclusively evil. Yōkai are powerful supernatural beings who also appear in human-like shapes. The main character Inu Yasha, as well as a few others, are based on the Inugami. Many of the characters are Yōkai, Oni or other beings from Japanese mythology. Inuyasha’s plot takes place in Japan during the Sengoku period (15th – 16th centuries) and alternately in modern times. In 2020, the anime series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon debuted on Japanese television it tells the adventures of the children of the protagonists from InuYasha. The work comprises almost 9,500 pages and was also adapted as an anime, a film, a theater piece, a novel, and a computer game and can be classified into the genres of adventure, fantasy, drama, and comedy. InuYasha is an internationally successful manga series by the Japanese illustrator Rumiko Takahashi, which was published from November 1996 to June 2008 in Japan.
